Another meeting?

Meetings seem to go better when the group takes time to focus on the reason they've gathered. Here's a guide for using The Upper Room to connect your group to God before various kinds of ministry meetings. They're even sorted by subject!

Blog Communities

The Methoblog is a volunteer-run site that brings together all those who want to connect with fellow Methodist bloggers.
Theological conversations are happening all over the world through blogs. The Christian Century created CCblogs to help Web readers join in the conversations.
High Calling Blogs: a network of Christian bloggers—doctors and business leaders, teachers and writers, pastors and counselors and professionals of all kindswho are committed to honoring God through their work.

Blogging Faith

Retired pastors don't have to stop serving the Lord, and Questing Parson is giving no indication of slowing down.
Q: What do you get if you cross a United Methodist pastor with a technology nerd?
A: Hacking Christianity... exploring good and bad "hacks" of the Christian system.

We're featuring a few of our favorite bloggers on our own blog's sidebar. Among them: missionaries, a district superintendent, a bishop, and a laywoman with an eye on faith and culture.

Did You Know?

The United Methodist Church has developed a unique lingo during its history. We have words that relate specifically to how we, as United Methodists, carry out our ministry. Need to get familiar with the terms? Try checking out the glossary...
Nearly 400 missionaries are currently commissioned by the United Methodist Church!

Learn more about them, the amazing work they do, and how you can help.
How did Methodism get started? What's an "Aldersgate experience"?
Read the conversion story of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, as he recorded it in his own journal.
Rx Help: People who don't have insurance, or whose insurance doesn't cover prescriptions, can still save on prescription drug costs. The United Methodist Association offers a prescription discount card. It's free, and can result in substantial savings.

Fruitful Ministry

Interested in learning what thriving churches have in common? Visit FivePractices.org, the companion site to Bishop Robert Schnase's book Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, for ideas, conversation and more.
The Combination
"The pastor mentioned that the safe was reliable, but could be a little stubborn," writes Bishop Robert Schnase. "Whenever I would finish spinning the numbers, I had to wrestle with the big handle, jiggling it back and forth several times..."

God Language

Ground rules: Everybody's God language is appropriate... Whether they want to call God "Jehovah" or "Big Dog," you can't judge the validity of how that name connects them with God. People just need to get used to that.

Growing in Faith

Alive Now, a magazine published by Upper Room, also has helpful online content. There's even a "Great for Groups" section if you're looking for ideas for your Sunday School class or other small group.
What is the Walk to Emmaus?
"While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and walked with them." -Luke 24:15
Learn about this spiritual renewal program that seeks to strengthen the local church by developing Christian disciples and leaders.
Ready to be held accountable? The Methodist movement began with a small group of people holding each other accountable in their daily walk with Christ.Today, we can still use this plan. Read more about Accountable Discipleship and how to encourage Covenant groups in your own congregation.

Labyrinth Walk Online

Need some focused prayer time, but can't leave your desk?  Visit Lost in Wonder, an online prayer path offered by the Methodist Church of Great Britain.

Living Prayer Center

The Upper Room Living Prayer Center is a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week intercessory prayer ministry staffed by Christian volunteers.  Send in your prayer request here...
